If you’ve recently moved out of Florida, it’s important to properly close out your Florida registration to avoid possible penalties. If your Florida registration is still valid, you are required to surrender your license plate and registration.
How to Return Your Plate
- If you still have your plate:
Mail your license plate and registration to the following address:
 Tax Collector’s Office
 1800 27th Street, Building B
 Vero Beach, FL 32960
Make sure to include a brief note with your name, contact information, and a statement that you have moved out of state.
- If your plate has been lost or destroyed:
You can surrender your registration online at Surrender Your Plate. This lets you officially notify the state that your plate is no longer in your possession.
Why This Is Important
Failing to surrender your plate and registration may result in driver license suspension or other penalties. Taking a few minutes to complete this step ensures your Florida records are properly updated and helps you avoid unnecessary issues in the future.
