Keeping your vehicle properly insured is not only important—it’s required by law.
Insurance is Required for Active Registrations
Florida law requires that a vehicle remain insured for the entire duration of its registration period.
If you cancel your insurance but do not properly cancel your registration, it could result in the suspension of your driving privilege.
Disposing of a Vehicle?
If you sell, trade, donate, or otherwise dispose of your vehicle, you must return your valid registration and license plate to your local tax collector’s office for cancellation. This ensures the registration is no longer active and helps prevent suspension issues.
Selling a Vehicle?
If you sell your vehicle, it is strongly recommended that you complete a Notice of Sale (Form 82050) to protect yourself from future liability.
Once completed, submit it to your local tax collector’s office as soon as possible.
