A vehicle that has previously been declared salvage or junk must be issued a rebuilt title before it can be titled, registered, and legally operated on Florida roadways.
Step 1: Obtain a Temporary Tag (If Needed)
If you need to drive the vehicle to its rebuilt inspection, you may visit the Tax Collector’s Office to obtain a 10 day temporary license plate.
To receive the temporary tag, you must provide proof of valid Florida insurance.
Step 2: Schedule a Rebuilt Vehicle Inspection
Rebuilt vehicle inspections are not performed by the Tax Collector’s Office.
Your vehicle must be inspected by either:
The inspection verifies the vehicle identification number (VIN), confirms ownership of major component parts, and ensures the vehicle has been properly rebuilt in accordance with Florida requirements.
Step 3: Visit the Tax Collector’s Office
After your vehicle has successfully passed inspection, bring the inspection paperwork and all required documents to the Tax Collector’s Office to complete your title and registration transaction.
Do not open any sealed documents provided to you after the inspection. These documents must remain sealed and will be opened by Tax Collector staff during processing.
