If you’ve sold or gifted your vehicle, it’s important to properly transfer ownership to avoid future liability. The seller must provide the buyer with a fully completed and reassigned title, ensuring all required fields are filled out accurately.
While a bill of sale is not required, it is strongly recommended as it serves as proof of the sale, including the transaction date and sale price.
If your Florida title is electronic, you’ll need to request a printed copy before transferring ownership. This can be done online or in person at your local tax collector’s office.
For convenience, the seller and buyer may also visit a tax collector’s office together to complete the title transfer in person. This ensures all documents are properly signed, verified, and processed.
Important:
If the seller is not transferring the registration to another vehicle, the valid registration must be surrendered to the tax collector’s office. Failure to do so may result in the suspension of the seller’s driving privilege.
