If your child is ready to start driving, here’s what you need to know about getting a Florida learner’s permit (learner’s license).
Learner’s Permit Requirements
To apply for a learner’s permit in Florida, the applicant must:
- Be at least 15 years old
- If under 18, have a signed and notarized Parental Consent Form – only required if a parent or guardian is not present in the office at the time of application

- Pass the Class E Knowledge Exam
Class E Knowledge Exam Details
- The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions on traffic laws and traffic signs
- You must score at least 80% (40 out of 50 questions) to pass
- Prepare for the exam by studying the Official Florida Driver License Handbook

Online Testing Option
Applicants under the age of 18 may take the Class E Knowledge Exam online through an approved third-party administrator.

Note: Per Florida Statute 322.56(3)(b) and (e), a customer who takes (and passes) the Class E Knowledge or Class E Driving Skills Test through an authorized Third-Party Administrator may be randomly selected for a mandatory re-test without prior notice.
- The re-test must be completed at a driver license or tax collector office.
- If passed, the driver license will be issued.
- If failed, a re-exam fee will be required before the next attempt.
Required Documents
The applicant must provide:
- Proof of identity
- Proof of Social Security number
- Proof of residential address
